Classic Button Up Shirt
What you will be doing:
? Learning the essential skills to jumpstart your journey of sewing clothes that fit your unique body and style! After this class you’ll have the confidence to tackle a range of garment sewing projects.
? Using the unisex Cameron Button Up pattern from Helen’s Closet, you’ll get hands-on experience working with sewing patterns, including making pattern adjustments to ensure a good fit.
? We’ll cover a range of essential garment sewing skills, including tracing patterns, cutting out fabric, finishing seams, sewing buttons and buttonholes, hemming, and sewing sleeve plackets.
? If you prefer a more form-fitting or feminine fitting button down shirt, we are happy to recommend a different pattern for you to use instead!
What do you bring?:
All supplies are available in shop and can be purchased with a 10% class discount.
? Copy of Cameron Button Up pattern from Helen’s Closet (note that this pattern is unisex and covers sizes 0-34 (up to 62” hip), and is available online as a PDF Pattern. We will give you additional support and guidance for getting this pattern printed! If you prefer a more form-fitting or feminine fitting button down shirt, we are happy to recommend other patterns to use instead.).
? Lightweight stable woven fabric according to your size. Keep in mind that pattern matching requires more fabric.
? Lightweight interfacing
? Buttons
? All purpose cotton or polyester thread to match your fabric
? If you have your own machine - bring it! Let us know what kind it is beforehand so we can find the manual for you if you don't have it. If you don't have a machine - we have one that you can use.

* This class is designed for age 16+
* Cancellation Notice: We kindly ask that makers give a minimum 1 week notice of cancellation for class credit/reschedule and a 2 week cancellation notice for full refund. This advance notice will allow us to make any necessary adjustments to our schedule and accommodate other makers.
Refunds: Class cancellations made with a 2 week notice or more will either receive a full refund on a gift card, or a full refund minus the $5 card processing fee to the card that was used to purchase the class registration. This fee accounts for the costs associated with the transaction and ensures a smooth and secure refund process. Multi-week courses fill more slowly and a 72 hour notice (current single class policy) is not enough time to fill an empty spot.

| Skill Details: | Open to confident beginners and intermediate sewists who are comfortable using their sewing machine and can follow a basic pattern mostly on their own. When taking an intermediate garment class it’s helpful if you have experience sewing hems, elastic waistbands, zippers or gathers. |

| Instructor Bio: | Mikayla Turner (@mikayla_sews) is a lifelong sewist who has found that the only thing she loves more than spending time at her machine is teaching others to sew! She primarily sews garments but has been known to make quilts from time to time. Her insatiable curiosity drives her to learn everything she can about sewing, always expanding her skill and expertise. As an instructor she has a particular passion for teaching beginners, and strives to create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible and inclusive. |
