Ferris Bag Class



What you will be doing: 

In this 5 hour class, we’ll go through the tips and tricks and how to assemble the Large size of the Ferris bag pattern by Sallie Tomato to create a handy and cute everyday sling bag that can also be used as a fanny pack! 
The finished size of the large is 19" wide, 9" high.
You can purchase all supplies needed prior to class at Handcraft Happy Hour or on Lovering Quilt Co.com
There will be additional kits available for purchase on the day of class as well. 
Please arrive 10 mins early to class to get your machine and work area set up. Instruction will start promptly at class time. 
***You will need to cut your fabric and interfacing pieces out prior to class. If you need assistance, please reach out to schedule a time before class to help with cutting out the pieces.***


What do you bring?: 

*Please cut out your fabric and interfacing pieces prior to class
  • 5/8 Quilting cotton for lining
  • 5/8 yard of Canvas substrate for the exterior
  • 1 yard (36”x20”) of one sided Fusible Fleece (Pellon 987F)
  • 1.5 yards decorative (1” or 1.5” wide) Webbing for strapping
  • Zipper by the yard & 2 coordinating zipper pulls for zippers (10” and 14”)
  • Coordinating hardware (two D rings or bag rings, two swivel clasps, one slider)
  • All purpose polyester or cotton thread to match your fabric & webbing- NOTE Polyester thread is ideal for bag making because of the strength and resilience.
  • Zipper foot for your machine
  • Basic sewing tools
  • Extra machine needles

Refunds: Class cancellations made with a 72 hour notice or more will either receive a full refund on a gift card, or a full refund minus the $5 card processing fee to the card that was used to purchase the class registration. This fee accounts for the costs associated with the transaction and ensures a smooth and secure refund process.


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: You have taken a class or two and feel good about the basics of sewing, but maybe want to dip your toe into bag making. Must know what a seam allowance is, and is comfortable with changing it based on piecing requirements. You will want to have a basic understanding of your machine and how to change your thread, bobbin, machine plate and or foot if necessary. This skill level is not for people who haven't used a sewing machine before.

Instructor Bio: Lisa is the owner of Lovering Quilt Collective (@loveringquiltco) a modern and sassy online quilt shop. A longtime sewist, quilter, and all around crafter, Lisa brings a "you can do it" perspective from a variety of different mediums to help you understand the materials used and excel at the project at hand. With a background in fashion textiles, product development and fine arts, Lisa truly enjoys seeing and teaching a project come to life from conception to finished product.
