Big Stitch Hand-Quilting

What you will be doing:

In this 3 hour class we’ll cover the essentials of hand quilting with perle cotton. We promise, hand quilting doesn’t have to be scary! Big stitch hand quilting is very forgiving, and it can add a lot of texture and depth to your quilted projects. From quilts and throw pillows to bags and garments, big stitch quilting can add that handmade touch that makes your projects shine.

• You’ll leave the class with a hand quilted sampler panel that can be turned into a throw pillow or incorporated into a future project.

What do you bring?: 

• 2 Fat Quarters

• Roughly 18x22” batting scrap (if you have it, if not we can provide it!)

• Size 8 Perle Cotton

• Assorted size embroidery needles. Size 5 usually is a good starting point, but it may help to have some a bit bigger and some a bit smaller.

• Thread gloss or wax (optional but highly recommended)

• Thimble (optional but highly recommended)

• Quilting hoop (optional)

Instructor Bio:	Mikayla Turner (@mikayla_sews) is a lifelong sewist who has found that the only thing she loves more than spending time at her machine is teaching others to sew! She primarily sews garments but has been known to make quilts from time to time. Her insatiable curiosity drives her to learn everything she can about sewing, always expanding her skill and expertise. As an instructor she has a particular passion for teaching beginners, and strives to create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible and inclusive.
